Electric Boat:
The 12th Volt

Why an Electric Boat?

As the world moves further away from fossil fuels, electric propulsion is on the rise and needs innovative new ideas and interested engineers to propel it forward. An electric boat is a great way to test these new ideas and get up and coming engineers interested in this area. Competitions tend to lead to innovation, and a race is a great way to showcase designs and operational effectiveness.

Where Do We Compete?

The Promoting Electric Propulsion competition will take place at Virginia Beach, Virginia in late May 2023.

What Does An Electric Boat Entail?

As per the PEP rules, the electric boat is a completely battery powered vessel. Our current boat, the 12th Volt, is a catamaran with a connecting bridge which houses our receivers and first person view camera.

How Do We Prepare For a Race?

As a student led team, we are responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing our electric boat(s). We communicate with professors and industry professionals to gain insight through their expertise and experience, as well as receive sponsorships in the form of parts, services, or equipment.
